Business Incorporation Services for Calgary Entrepreneurs

Incorporation establishes the corporation. Accounting setup and any additional CRA program accounts depend on the business’s activities and the agreed service.

Alberta Named or Numbered Corporation Setup

KL Accounting can incorporate a named or numbered Alberta corporation. An Alberta corporation can use an approved name or an assigned numbered name. Named corporations generally need an Alberta NUANS report; numbered corporations do not.

Alberta or Federal Incorporation

KL Accounting provides Alberta and federal incorporation services. A federal corporation carrying on business in Alberta generally must also be registered in Alberta.

Business Incorporation & Registration

KL Accounting handles the incorporation process based on the information provided by the client, including preparation of the required incorporation information and completion of the applicable registration process.

Business Number & Corporate Tax Account

Alberta-incorporated corporations generally receive a federal Business Number and corporation income tax account through incorporation. KL can help confirm the assigned accounts and organize additional CRA registrations where required.

GST & Payroll Account Registration

Additional CRA program accounts depend on the corporation’s activities, revenue and employees. Not every new corporation needs immediate GST or payroll registration.

Post-Incorporation Accounting Setup

After incorporation, KL can help establish the financial and tax processes needed to keep the new corporation organized.

Ownership & Share Information Coordination

KL collects and prepares the ownership and share information required for the incorporation and discusses relevant accounting and tax considerations. For customized share rights, shareholder agreements or complex ownership structures, separate legal advice may be appropriate.

Corporate Records & Filing Coordination

Help organize key corporate and accounting records and identify recurring filing requirements relevant to the engagement.

Business Incorporation FAQs

Should I incorporate in Alberta or federally?

The choice depends on where the business will operate and its ownership and growth plans. A federal corporation carrying on business in Alberta generally must also be registered in Alberta.

Do I need a NUANS report to incorporate in Alberta?

Generally, yes for a named corporation. Alberta’s NUANS report reserves the proposed name for 90 days. A numbered corporation does not need one. The report is a name-search step, not a guarantee of incorporation approval.

What is the difference between a named and numbered Alberta corporation?

A named corporation uses an approved name you propose. A numbered corporation uses a number assigned by Corporate Registry as part of its legal name. Either option is a corporation; the choice does not remove accounting or tax responsibilities.

Do I receive a CRA Business Number when I incorporate in Alberta?

Yes. Incorporation in Alberta generally assigns a Business Number and corporation income tax (RC) account automatically. KL can help confirm those details rather than applying for a duplicate number, and identify other program accounts where needed.

Do I need to register for GST or payroll immediately after incorporating?

Not automatically. GST registration depends on taxable activities, revenue and applicable registration rules; eligible small suppliers may register voluntarily. Payroll registration depends on paying employees or other payments that require a payroll account. We review the circumstances before completing the applicable registration.

What information do I need to incorporate an Alberta corporation?

Prepare the proposed name or numbered-name choice, Alberta addresses, director and agent-for-service details, ownership information and the information required for the Articles of Incorporation. KL will confirm the additional information, identification and applicable fees required to complete the incorporation process.

Can KL Accounting handle the incorporation process for me?

Yes. KL Accounting handles the standard incorporation process based on the information you provide, including preparation of the required incorporation information and completion of the registration through the appropriate channel.

Can KL Accounting handle bookkeeping, payroll and corporate tax after incorporation?

Yes. These services can be coordinated after incorporation where included in the engagement. We confirm responsibilities, records and the required accounts. Broader startup consulting and business plan services are also available through their dedicated service pages.

What do I receive after my corporation is registered?

Once the incorporation is completed, the available documents generally include the certificate of incorporation and applicable incorporation records. KL can also help confirm the Business Number and corporation income tax account and identify any GST, payroll, bookkeeping or corporate tax setup required next.
